I have about a dozen games vs Automas under my belt now so taking their actions was pretty quick for me. It was great fun! I play Gaia Project once or twice a month and will probably play against more than one Automa most of the time from now on. I did take some breaks in between rounds for things like dinner and avoiding cognitive overload. My score was 123, vs 117, 119 and 113 for the Automas respectively.

On the Research Board you can see I focused on terraforming and navigation, the points they generated also being essential for the win. I likely would not have been first had I not chosen not to trade VP for cycling power in a couple of occasions. My score ended up being pretty close to the Automas. In the end I managed to build just enough to create three federations, which, along with being first on both end goals, is what won me the game. Those upgrades were also needed because creating federations in round six would give me a lot of extra points.

This is probably the first game I played where I had all my mines built by round five and had to upgrade some just to be able to grab more planets. I rarely find myself going for gaiaformers to win but in this game from round three I started racing to grab as many gaia and transdim planets as possible, first focusing on the ones in the center of the map to block the other players from being able to reach them as much as possible. Building the planetary institute in round two gave me a lot of flexibility on available resources as well. On two occasions I only just beat one of the Automas to grab those planets away from me (they would draw a card to place a mine right after I did) and was lucky not the get boxed in at the bottom of the map.

I prioritized using power for the terraform abilities to achieve this. I took a gaia planet in the first round, and moved up close to the center of the map quickly. Fortunately the Automas moved in my direction quickly (especially the Taklons, who were farthest away but their faction power essentially makes them jump in your direction) which gave me plenty opportunity to cycle power from the second round on. I had no red planets in range so I was going to be forced to do a lot of costly terraforming early on. Otherwise, the main objectives of this game would be to occupy the most planet types and gaia planets, so I also knew I had to race to the group of transdim planets in the center of the map. When placing the initial mines it turned out I could not be in range of any faction initially, so the first goal would be to move in closer as quickly as possible to be able to cycle power. For setup I generated a game using the seed 1337 in that app.

For the first Automa I used the regular Automa deck and for the other two I used this web app on two separate phones. To ease myself into a bigger game and give myself a fighting chance I chose to play with the Hadsch Halla (red) faction, while giving the Automa players the Taklons (brown), Firaks (gray) and Geoden (orange) because they have relatively undisruptive faction powers.
